#Endsars: Senate Okays Special Fund For Rehabilitation of Lagos, other States
The Nigerian Senate has urged the Federal government to assist in the reconstruction and repair of properties and infrastructure destroyed during the #EndSARS protests in Lagos and other parts of the country.
One per cent of proceeds of the Value Added Tax VAT is proposed to be the source of the special funds for the reconstruction.
Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that this is part of resolutions during plenary on Tuesday sequel to motions presented by Ekiti South Senator Biodun Olujimi and Gershom Bassey of Cross River South, with attendant reactions by a cross-section of senators.
Other Senators had earlier made a case for the compensation to go across board to cover more states, while Nasarawa West Senator, Abdullahi Adamu noted that it will be prejudicial to act now seeing the issue is before a judicial panel of enquiry.
Setting up a Special Visitation Panel to assess the extent of destruction during the protests was another resolution reached during plenary in the Senate.
