The Chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed, says the disregard to court orders is a recipe for anarchy in the country, a practice that the judiciary will no longer condone.

Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that Justice Mohammed made this submission Monday in Abuja at the Special Supreme Court Session to mark the 2020/2021 legal year and swearing-in of seventy-two newly conferred Senior Advocates of Nigeria [SAN].

Represented by Justice Bode Rhodes Vivour of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of Nigeria said the country’s justice system will no longer allow the conduct of a few to undermine the legal institution.

In his submission, the Attorney-General and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami who was represented by his Solicitor-General, Dayo Apata reiterated the government’s interest in protecting human rights, citing the Judicial Panel of Enquiry investigating alleged brutality as a testament to this fact.

On his part, President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Olumide Apata, made a strong case against corruption in the judiciary.

Of the 72 sworn-in as Senior Advocates of Nigeria, ten are in academia.
