The federal government creation of local government in Nigeria have been described as an aberration.

These were the words of the Bayelsa state governor Douye Diri, while delivering a lecture at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, with the theme RETHINKING OUR FUTURE, THE NEED FOR TRUE FEDERALISM AND ECONOMIC RENAISSANCE.

According to the governor, the creation of the local government by the federal government undermine the principle of true federalism and the autonomy of the state.

On his part, the host and acting vice chancellor University of Nigeria Nsukka Professor Polycap Chigbu said the discourse is timely, taking into consideration the present challenges.
