Bayelsa leaders fume over BASEMA's unfulfilled promise

Ten days after an overnight rainfall with heavy thunderstorm destroyed over fifty houses which include schools, markets, and churches at Biseni community in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa state, the people are lamenting the unfulfilled promise by the Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (BASEMA) and its national body NEMA.

This is coming as the elderly and children still live in their homes with blown off roofs, while electric poles and cables litter the community.

Our Correspondent who visited the community ten days after the destruction filed in this report.

Speaking on the alleged neglect by the agencies, the chairman Biseni council of chiefs HRH Touye Okita and the youth president said the promised palliative measures were not made available for the community.

Others who spoke include the community women representative and a community leader who said they have been rendered homeless as a result of the incident.

When contacted the state coordinator of BASEMA, Felix Tekemo said he is out of the state on assignment.
