Air Peace raises Lagos-Abuja ticket prices to N200,000 starting in Novembe

Starting November 1, 2024, Air Peace will raise its one-way ticket price from Lagos to Abuja to N200,000. The ongoing economic challenges have hit the aviation industry hard, prompting airlines to increase fares, much to the dismay of passengers. This situation has led some Nigerians to opt for road travel instead.

Recent checks revealed that Air Peace's new fare of N200,000 is the highest among domestic airlines. In contrast, Aero offers tickets ranging from N94,000 to N109,000, while Arik Air prices theirs between N104,405 and N139,292, and Ibom Air's fares range from N124,000 to over N133,000.

Many travelers have found themselves stranded at airports, struggling to secure flights, particularly on the busy Lagos-Abuja and Abuja-Lagos routes. An unnamed Air Peace official confirmed that the fare hike is a direct result of Nigeria's worsening economic situation, stating, "If you look at the ticket breakdown, you’ll see we’re bleeding as an aviation company. The costs of running the business are spiraling out of control. With soaring taxes, airlines have no choice but to adjust prices."

Attempts to reach Air Peace's Chief Operating Officer, Toyin Olajide, for further comment were unsuccessful. Businessman Adeleke Aina expressed frustration, noting that he may have to shift to road travel due to the steep rise in airfares. "This situation is unsustainable; fuel prices are outrageous, and the government seems indifferent to this crisis. I worry for the future of this country."
