Properties Worth Millions Destroyed as Fire Guts Atakunmosa Market in Osun
Properties worth billions of naira have been razed down to ashes following a fire outbreak that gutted the popular Atakunmosa market in Ilesa, Osun state.
The market situated around the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran caught fire on Sunday, 9th August, 2015.
The fire incident started around 7 o'çlock in the evening when most of the traders in the market were either on their way home or about to close for the day.
According to eye witness account, the fire outbreak started following what they suspected to be power surge in one of the closed up stalls in the market burning till around midnight.
When the state governor Rauf Aregbesola visited the market to commiserate with the traders, he said efforts will be made to ensure the promt rebuilding of the market and help for victims of the market.
The Owa of Obokun land, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II thanked the state governor for his prompt show of concern in such a difficult period soliciting for the help of the state government to alleviate the loss of the traders.
