Mali Records first Ebola Case

Mali has reported its first case of Ebola, the patient is a two year old girl who recently arrived from neighboring Guinea where the outbreak originated. The child was taken to a hospital in the Malian town of Kayes - which is about 375 miles from the capital of Bamako - on Wednesday, and her blood sample tested positive for the virus. The health minister revealed that the girls condition has improved due to swift treatment she received. He added: 'The sick child and the people who were in contact with her in Kayes were immediately identified and taken care of.' According to reports, it is alleged that the girl's mother died in Guinea a few weeks ago and the child was brought by relatives to Bamako, where she stayed for 10 days in the Bagadadji neighborhood before heading to Kayes. The news emerged after the World Health Organisation (WHO) said earlier today that it had 'reasonable confidence' the Ebola virus plaguing three West African countries had not spread into neighbouring states.
