Senate gives agencies ultimatum on budget

The Nigerian Senate has issued a one week ultimatum to the Agencies of govt. to submit details of their budget proposals for the 2018 appropriation.

The resolution by the upper chamber of the National Assembly is with a view to ensure the speedy consideration of the budget proposals for the new fiscal year to ensure early passage of the budget.

Standing on Order 43 of the Senate Rules during Wednesday’s plenary, the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan says only the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has submitted its details of the 2018 budget proposals of the total 64 agencies of govt., lamenting that the non-compliance of other agencies is slowing down legislative business.

Speaking on the motion, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki says the entire Senate holds the same opinion on the matter, accusing the govt. agencies of total disregard to due process.

In another development, the Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of seven INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners.

The Senate confirmed the appointment of Baba Abba Yusuf from Borno State, Segun Agbaje from Ekiti State, Dr. Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidagba from Kwara State and Dr. Cyril Omorogbe from Edo State.

Others are Yahaya Bello from Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart from Rivers State and Mohammed Magaji Ibrahim from Gombe State.

The Senate however, declined confirmation of Eric Olawale from Osun on grounds of failing to show up for the screening, and Elder MondayUdoh Tom owing to a pending petition against him.
