FG Presents New National Policy for MSME

The Federal government is set to assist Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to achieve its goals of being locally and globally competitive.

Director-General, small and medium enterprises development agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dikko Umaru Radda disclosed this at the presentation of the newly approved revised national policy on MSMEs in Abuja, Wednesday.

Dikko Stated that the policy document has a detailed implementation Matrix with highlights of the breakdown of key strategies into actionable steps, key performance indicators (KPIs), and the assignment of key partners for their implementation within a timeline.

He noted that the investment climate reform facility (ICR)  has agreed to provide a tailored capacity building that will assist in effective coordination of the implementation and monitoring of the policy recommendations.

The director-general stressed that the process for the second review of the policy started in 2019 but spilt over into 2020 because of so many unavoidable occurrences especially the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be recalled that the first national policy on MSMEs was approved in 2007 with a provision for a quarterly review.

The first review was carried out in 2015 to reflect changes within the space as at that time.
