Soul II Soul’s Melissa Bell dies at 53

British singer, Soul II Soul’s Melissa Bell has died from complications of Diabetes on Monday, August 28 at age 53.


Her daughter, Alexandra Burke won “The X Factor” confirmed her death on Twitter, Tuesday, August 29.

“It is with the heaviest and saddest of hearts that the family inform you our beautiful, funny and loving mum, Melissa Bell has passed away,” Burke wrote. “Our beautiful mother gained her wings on 28th August 2017, a day that has changed our lives forever.

In a statement, the Burke Family wrote; “We will never forget her unconditional love, support, charisma, strength and courage throughout her life,” she continued.

“We are eternally proud & thankful to call her our mummy. We would be grateful if you could respect our privacy at this difficult time. Thank you. The Burke Family.”

Melissa Bell, who was active in the late 80s into the late 90s joined Soul II Soul in 1993, recording and touring with the band until 1995.

She continued her solo career after the leaving the group, and in 1999, fronted a new band called Soul Explosion.
