Senate confirms Adeleke commissioner on NCC board
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Barr Adeleke Moronfolu Adewolu as the Executive Commissioner on the governing board of the Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC).
Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the confirmation on Wednesday followed a report of the Senate Committee on Communication chaired by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
She explained that the nominee whose name was transmitted to the Upper Chambers by President Muhammadu Buhari was scrutinized and found worthy to serve as the Executive Commissioner Stakeholder Management (ECSM) on the Governing Board of the NCC.
However, Senators Uche Ekwunife and Rochas Okorocha drew the attention of the Senate on an existing slot for the South East on the NCC Board, calling for the vacant position to be filled in the interest of Federal character.
On the matter raised by the Senators on the vacant position, the Senate President urged the relevant committee to look into the matter, following which the voice vote was taken.
In explaining the matter further, Senate Minority leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe noted that their issue should not involve an inquest into the activities of the NCC.
