Obafemi Martins Nets Brace In Sounders Win

The Nigerian got two first half goals before getting the marching order in his side’s away win in the Major League Soccer on Saturday night
Obafemi Martins got a brace for Seattle Sounders in their 3-2 away win against Chicago Fire Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois.

A deflected shot falls to the Nigerian and he made no mistake in the bottom corner past Sean Johnson to grab the curtain raiser in the 31st minutes.

The former Levante forward completed his brace from the penalty spot seven minutes later after he got a two-footed tackle from Jhon Kennedy Hurtado who was sent off before Martins put the penalty away.

Despite being two goals and one man down, Chicago got back into the match right away. Harrison Shipp's run into the box was not walled off well by Chad Marshall and the rookie cut back onto his left foot, opening up just enough space to finish and cut the lead in half.

The ‘weapon of mass destruction’  was sent off as part of a scuffle at midfield, though exactly what he did to pick up the straight red was not immediately clear.

Shipp made sure the finish would not be an easy one for the Sounders with his second goal of the night in the 82nd, a blast with his right foot from a tough angle before Lamar Neagle sealed the win for the visitors in the 78th minute.

The win sends Sounders to 32 points from 15 matches heading into the World Cup break with the Nigerian boasting of eight goals and six assists.
