Enyeama not ready for Super Eagles now, says Shorunmu
Former Super Eagles Goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has called on the national team manager, Gernot Rohr, to handle with caution the issue of goalkeepers for the country’s 2018 World Cup qualifying matches against Cameroon slated for Uyo next month and September.
Shorunmu, who expressed shock over the health condition of Super Eagles number one, Carl Ikeme, which has automatically excluded him from the Cameroun clash, said picking a replacement for the crucial games ahead needed careful planning. He advised Rohr to look beyond former Super Eagles’ Captain, Vincent Enyeama, saying the Lille of France goalkeeper is tuned off the team, saying, “I spoke to him personally some time ago. I do not think he wants to return.
He explained that it was wrong for some people to say that Nigeria has goalkeeping problem based on Ikeme’s absence, adding that the insinuation is capable of weighing down others ready to fight to earn the number one position in the team.Shorunmu urged Rohr to give all the invited young goalkeepers equal opportunity and belief they have what it takes to take the position, stressing that other past excellent goalkeepers succeed because the coaches reposed confidence in them.
