Traders protest over high rate of levies

Traders in the Oba market have taken to the streets in Benin-City, the Edo state capital, in a protest against what they described as multiple collections of levies and increase in rental by officials of Oredo local government council in Edo state.

The traders in a protest trooped to the council secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists to register their pains and called on the state government to come in with the aim of addressing the matter.

Among the over one hundred traders escorted by police operatives, the traders spoke to newsmen on the challenges faced in the hands of the council officials.

Aliu Alemma, the NUJ secretary who spoke with the traders appeal to them to be peaceful but go approach the appropriate channels to address their issues.

Galaxy television gathered that the aggrieved traders after registering their protest at the NUJ secretariat also went to government House to draw the attention of the concerned authorities.
