TCN Denies Grid Collapse Blames Benin + Omotosho Line Tripping For Power Outage
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has denied reports of on the collapse of the National grid on Saturday .The Company stated that nothing was wrong with nation's grid contrary to the widely published misinformation in the media.
The General Manager, Public Affairs of the Company, Ndidi Mbah in a statement made available to Our Correspondent on Saturday said earlier on Saturday, at about 13:41Hrs, the Osogbo - Ihovour line tripped, followed by the tripping of the Benin - Omotosho line.
The statement said this consequently affected bulk supply to only Lagos axis alone stressing that, at about 13:00 Hrs, on Saturday, just before the tripping, total generation on the grid was 4,335.63MW. It disclosed that after the tripping, generation was 2,573.23MW, showing clearly that the grid has no issue as reported in the media.
The company said the transmission line tripping affected Edgbin, Olorunsogo, Omotoso, Geregu, and Paras, but these have all been restored except for the Benin - Omotoso 330kV line whose restoration is ongoing.
It assured that TCN will continue to work hard to put in place a robust transmission grid, in spite of prevailing challenges noting that, it has become imperative for Nigerians to understand the negative impact of deliberately misinforming the public and the value of disseminating true and verifiable facts.
