Following the rumour making the round that there is a possibility that the rampaging unknown gunmen will attack the state secretariat, the Imo state government speaking through the commissioner for information Honourable Declan Emelumba has asked workers not to panic but go about their legitimate duties.
Emelumba who reacted to the development while addressing journalists in Owerri the state capital said the government has further reinforced the security architecture of the state to prevent such evil incident from taking place.
Our correspondent reports that workers were seen running out of the secretariat after hearing that the unknown gunmen were approaching.
As at 2 pm today, all shuttle buses for free transportation for civil servants had returned to the ministry as against 5 to 6 pm their usual time.
The rumour came barely a few hours after the state experienced a fresh attack, two people were killed during a gun duel between the police and unknown gunmen around the Amakohia axis of the state.
Emelumba regretted that opposition instead of closing ranks with the government of the day to proffer a solution to the problems on the ground, have continued to celebrate the mishaps.
