No going back on 18 years admission age - Minister

The Federal Government has declared that there is no going back on 18 years admission age into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

Recall that the decision to enforce the 18 years admission age was reached last month at the 4th Edition of 2021-2022/3 of Jamb National Admission Performance Merit Awards in Abuja.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman while answering questions from Journalists at the sideline of an event, said the decision is not new adding that, it has been in existence in the country's educational curriculum.

While appealing to parents to stop pushing their children unnecessarily, the Minister said no children should be registered for primary school before the age of six noting that, doing this will be counterproductive with attendant impacts on the performance of such child.

The Minister disclosed that the system had been designed in such a way that there would be no vacuum of any kind saying there will be no compromise on the admission age.

He disclosed that the National Policy on Skills Development would be implemented across board and at all levels of education in Nigeria.
