Jamb Shuts Down 38 CBT Centres Nationwide.
No fewer than 38 Computer Centres across the country, where candidates wishing to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) ought to register have been shut down by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Their closure, followed various infractions, including extortion uncovered by the Board by operators of these centres.
The affected centres cuts across states like Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Katsina, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Oyo and Rivers.
JAMB Registrar Prof Ishaq Oloyede who paraded operators of the centres in Abuja explained that the indicted 38 CBT centres owners used their registered computers to do fraud by extending their Virtual Private Network VPN to other computer centres not included with those registered with JAMB, knowing that candidates registered in such centres would have problem during the JAMB exams.
Oloyede said three centres in Adamawa, Delta and Enugu were also asked by JAMB to suspend the registration process over allegation of extortion of candidates either directly or by proxy
He further disclosed that four other CBT centres in Gombe, Niger, Osun, and Zamfara were directed to stop registration for technical deficiency during third party examination, that is an aptitude test conducted on behalf of other organizations.
Meanwhile, between January 17-January 23, 2020 JAMB has raked in N2.27 billion as proceeds from sales of forms to candidates and conduct of independent examination for other organizations.
