INEC Warns Parties against Mobilizing Underage Voters Ahead Of Ekiti 2026 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has issued a strong warning to political parties taking part in the 2026 Ekiti State gubernatorial election. INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, cautions parties including the All Progressives Congress, People’s Democratic Congress, and African Democratic Congress to stop mobilizing underage voters, warning that any attempt to involve ineligible voters will lead to arrests and prosecution.
This warning came just ahead of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise, which kicks off online as from August 18, and in-person on August 25, 2025.The National Orientation Agency’s State Director, Oluwakemi Akomolede, says the registration is crucial for allowing eligible citizens to participate in Ekiti’s electoral process and deepen democracy.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti APC Chairman, Sola Elesin, praised INEC’s efforts, saying that the party is actively mobilizing qualified voters ahead of the polls scheduled for June 20, 2026.
