FG unveils new direction for Educational Development

The Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman has unveiled Nigeria's new direction in education, focusing on technology-enhanced learning to foster critical thinking and creativity in students.

 

During a tour to the FCT Smart School in Karshi, alongside the Minister of state for Education Dr Yusuf Sununu in Abuja, Prof. Mamman, emphasized the government's vision for a digitalized school system, integrating personal learning and technology from kindergarten to university level. 

 

The Minister highlighted the unique features of the smart schools, including, Interactive learning for toddlers ,Teacher involvement in content development,Combination of conventional and vocational education, Emphasis on Nigerian values and national curriculum

 

 He also addressed security concerns, stating that elaborate arrangements are in place, including armed and unarmed guards, community engagement, and strong synergy with host communities.

 

 

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, announced the revocation of contracts for smart school infrastructure in Kebbi and Bayelsa states, citing delays and the need to ensure no state is left behind in the technology-driven education initiative.

 

 He also decried the failure of some states whose smart schools have been completed and handed over, to supply the federal government with 75 teachers to be trained so as to run the schools. 

 

 Sununu also called on traditional rulers and residents of Karshi, to provide adequate security for the facilities as they are the primary beneficiaries of their services before other Nigerians.

 

 

The Smart School project was initiated and funded by the Universal Basic Education in collaboration with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), with the aims to enhance teacher capacity and improve access to quality education materials.
