FCT: NUT Directs Primary School Teachers To Resume Strike.

The Nigeria Union of teachers, Federal Capital Territory Area Wing, has directed Primary School Teachers in the Area to continue strike on January 15th.

The decision was contained in a communique issued and signed in Abuja by Abdullahi Shafas, State Chairman, Idowu Adekeye, State Publicity and Magret Jethro, State Secretary, at the end of the meeting of the State Wing Standing Committee.

The Primary School Teachers had embarked on indefinite strike in September last year, over non implementation of a 40 per cent pecuniary allowance and payment of 25 months minimum wage arrears, among other issues.

The teachers are now worried that the six weeks have elapsed, with nothing positive achieved even though when the committee had submitted its report
The strike was however, suspended for six weeks to allow resolution of all issues following the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike.
Woke also set up a six man committee to look into the issues and come up with recommendations.

Worried by this development, the State Wing Standing committee of the Union declared that it had no option than to direct the primary school teachers in the area to resume the suspended strike, with effect from 15th of January, 2024, till further notice.
It also appealed to Parents to keep their children and wards in the primary schools safe at home
