Customs Intercept Seven Containers Of Illicit Goods Worth N11.2 Billion in Rivers

The Area II Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Onne, Rivers State has intercepted seven (7) 40ft containers of illicit goods in its anti-smuggling drive.

The seven containers were found to contain 1,054,400 bottles of different cough syrup codeine among other banned substance.

The Customs Area Comptroller of the Command, Comptroller Mohammed Babandede who gave the details of the seized containers put the Duty Paid Value of the consignments at Eleven billion naira.

Expressing his worry over the unrepentant nature of some Nigerians who import these illicit items, Comptroller Babandede hinted that the seized Cough Syrups, Codeine and Tablets would be handed over formally to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in due course for further investigation.

The customs service says it will not relent in curbing economic sabotage and revenue leakages caused by smuggling.
