Davido eyes politics, names Wike Godfather

Twenty-six-year-old popular, award-winning Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, popularly known by his stage name as Davido, is gradually exposing his intentions to dive into politics as he has on Sunday, December 16, officially named the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike as his Godfather.

The DMW's boss on Sunday promised to work for the re-election of Wike, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The musician, made the pledge when he visited the Rivers Governor in PortHarcourt, the Rivers state capital. Davido has also revealed his intention to institute a talent hunt show for Rivers-based artistes.

According to the Osun-born artiste, this would give Rivers-based artistes the opportunity to contribute to the Nigerian entertainments industry. He said the programme would be in line with his discussions with the State Government to support new generation artistes in the state.

Davido also pledged his total support for the incumbent governor of the state. He pledged to do everything possible to support the re-election bid of the Rivers governor.

“I am also here to see my godfather, Gov. Wike and to support his second term bid.

“I am planning a talent hunt show in Port Harcourt, one of the lucky artistes will perform at my show in Lagos on Dec. 27,” he said.

The musician was in Port Harcourt for a musical show tagged: ‘Plugged’, where he performed alongside other Rivers-based artistes.

Davido said he was also in Port Harcourt to wish Wike a happy birthday.

It would be recalled that Davido got involved in politics in September when he rolled out his support and campaigned for his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke who missed the governorship seat of Osun.

Ademola, the 58-year-old politician ran against current Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
